Housing
The proximity to the University of Texas at Austin means that the city has a steady supply of graduates with degrees in technology, sciences and related fields. This has prompted several major companies to locate in Austin and has prompted the need for housing for these white collar employees. With housing at least somewhat less expensive than in some other technology areas - Silicon Valley in California, for example many of these young executives opt to remain in the Austin area. You'll find that Austin has the full range of housing available, from relatively inexpensive homes and apartments to those houses that cost several million dollars. The market seems to be booming with plenty of options currently available for sale. At the same time, it doesn't seem that most reasonably priced houses remain on the market for long.
